About guitar & ukulele lessons with me

My guitar and ukulele lessons focus on efficient technique, musical flexibility, and creative independence. They’re well suited to students who want to accompany themselves as singers, explore songwriting and improvisation, or build stronger foundations in rhythm, harmony and musicianship.

We can also explore ear training, music theory, and creative projects — always tailored to your goals, and paced to support long-term progress and enjoyment.

What you can study

Lessons are flexible and student-led, with no fixed method books — just music that feels meaningful to you. You can bring in songs you love, or even your own original music.

We’ll work toward your own goals and interests, and I will provide professional worksheets, handouts, and homework tasks, plus helpful recommendations for books and apps.

You can focus on any combination of these skills to suit your goals:

    • Chord accompaniment, including barre and jazz chords

    • Fingerpicking and strumming

    • Playing and singing at the same time

    • Accompanying other singers or instrumentalists

    • Developing rhythmic accuracy and groove in various accompaniment styles

    • Ear training and learning by ear

    • Reading notated music, lead sheets, and tablature

    • Practical music theory for singer-songwriters

    • Advanced music theory and jazz harmony

    • Improvisation and soloing

    • Optional: combine with music theory or singing lessons

    • Lyric writing, songwriting, and composition

    • Arranging music for solo or band performances

    • Recording and producing music at home

    • Artistic development and creative coaching

    • Playing with others in a group or duo setting

    • Leading your own band or ensemble

    • Performance preparation

    • Relaxation and overcoming performance anxiety

Beginner to advanced levels

You might be:

  • A singer-songwriter wanting to improve your accompaniment skills, explore new harmonic ideas, or develop your own original songs.

  • A self-taught player ready to deepen your technique, fill gaps in your theory knowledge, or explore jazz harmony and improvisation.

  • A classically trained musician looking to expand into folk, pop or jazz styles — with or without vocals.

  • A child or teenager who wants to sing and play their favourite songs.

  • A total beginner wanting to build confidence playing (and maybe singing too).

  • A ukulele club member who wants extra support to keep up with more experienced players.

  • A Masters of Music Therapy applicant preparing for audition requirements on guitar.

“Erica cleverly challenges me with new styles and techniques and the more I learn the more excited I am about what else there is to learn. I am hooked on guitar and so grateful to have a wonderfully talented teacher.”
— Caitlin H, guitar student
My daughter has developed so much musically under Erica’s guidance, it’s lovely to see. Lessons with Erica are one activity my daughter is always keen to do, even though she’s now an unpredictable teenager!

About me

Bachelor of Music (Honours) - Victorian College of the Arts

I’ve been teaching guitar and ukulele since 2014. I specialise in working with singer-songwriters, but also love teaching instrumentalists of all kinds — from beginners learning their first chords to more experienced players who want to get more comfortable on their instrument or explore new creative directions.

My teaching is grounded and flexible, with a balance between technique and creativity, shaped by what excites you about music.
