Songs From A Midnight Room

album launch

8:30pm, Wednesday May 9, Paris Cat Jazz Club

Erica Bramham celebrates the release of her sophomore album Songs From A Midnight Room with this special performance in the iconic Paris Cat Basement.

One of Melbourne’s most captivating jazz vocalists, Erica’s music is intimate and poetic, with echoes of Joni Mitchell, Leonard Cohen, Jeff Buckley and Nick Drake, and an experimental spirit that sees her effortlessly blur the lines between folk singer and jazz musician.

Songs From A Midnight Room is a collection of music to come out of The Song-Chain Project, a gruelling and inspiring creative challenge that saw Erica compose 180 pieces of music between January and August 2017. It follows on from her critically acclaimed 2016 debut, Twelve Moons.

The album features Adam Spiegl on guitar and bass, and Justin Olsson on drums, who will join Erica for the launch alongside special guest Sarah Holmes on bass.

Erica Bramham sings Joni Mitchell

7pm, Friday Jun 15, Paris Cat Jazz Club

Presented by In Our Own Words

"The trick is if you listen to that music and you see me, you’re not getting anything out of it. If you listen to that music and you see yourself, it will probably make you cry and you’ll learn something about yourself and now you’re getting something out of it, you know."
-- Joni Mitchell, interview with Jian Ghomeshi, CBC News 2013

Hailed by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest songwriters ever, Joni Mitchell emerged onto the 60's folk scene with a sound that was all her own. Her songs are highly personal yet compellingly universal, and have found their way into the hearts and repertoire of fans and musicians across the world.

More than just a singer-songwriter Mitchell’s work spans genres, from traditional folk to experimental jazz, and throughout her long and productive career she has worked with some of the greatest musicians of the 20th century to produce an award winning body of work that has life beyond her recordings - modern standards that will endure for generations to come.

Join critically acclaimed vocalist Erica Bramham, and award winning musicians Nathan Liow, Adam Spiegl and Justin Olsson, for this celebration of Joni Mitchell's iconic songs.  The quartet bring their own stories and influences to their arrangements of Joni's music, making this a show not to be missed for both long time fans and newcomers to her repertoire.
